How to change 2001 Peugeot 206 head gasket?

take it from me there is nothing basic about it, and it is expensive. How to change 2001 Peugeot 206 head gasket?
It is pretty basic, you can look it up online to be more specific, but it is a very big job, if you do not have the time, the patience, or the previous Knowledge do not attempt to change the head gasket. I used the following website for changing the a head gasket and it worked very well, although this is just a base, so there maybe little things left out. http://www.brighthub.com/engineering/mec

  • Head gasket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

hi, just need to know how hard it is to change a head gasket, and what makes it so expensive in a garage? is it the labour or parts???

a quick answer would be great thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Head gasket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
mostly labour have to tear half the engine downHead gasket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
Time consuming on most cars - labour is the biggyHead gasket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
    6 hours labour 拢180

Head skimmed and pressure tested 拢80

    Gasket kit 拢80

    This covers the basics only.

Varies according to the car model.Head gasket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
What makes it hard is the intake and exhaust system. Exhaust systems are notorious for frozen nuts and broken studs. Along with this goes having to pull ignition parts on some cars.

The cost is almost all labor.

For some one to do it themselves, it will take almost (if not more) money to buy all the tools needed.

On some cars (in-line) the job can be done on two hours, while on others (V) it can take a day (or more).

If you are having this job done by a professional, they will have connections to make sure that it is just the gasket and not a warped head or cracks.Head gasket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
Its a highly labour weighted job. You have to remove all the gear off the top part of the engine, ignition, filters, manifolds, drain the coolant etc. The head, camshaft or valves may need some work done to them before the gasket is replaced and the rebuild commenced. As well as putting it all back together the timing has to be set too, which can be a complex job. Its common practice to renew the oil and filters after this jobHead gasket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
It's not so much the parts that makes it expensive. Its the time it takes, and you will need to have the head skimmed.Head gasket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
To replace a cylinder head gasket you need to remove both the inlet and the exhaust manifolds, timing chain or belt covers and belt/chain. Drain the coolant, remove the rocker cover, loosen all the head bolts and then remove the head.

Once the head is off ideally to should be pressure tested to see if its cracked, it should also be checked to make sure it is still straight and true. Depending on the results you may need to have the head repaired and or machined.

All the head bolt holes need to have there threads cleaned up and then you have to re-build the engine back up.

Its a lot of labour and this makes the job expensive.

    Ja.Head gasket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
its labour that puts the price up and if the cylinder head needs engineering that also increase cost.Head gasket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
It depends on the car an 8 valve over head valve engine can be changed quickly about 2 to 2.5 hours because you don檛 have to have the head skimmed and it is easy to remove.

other cars lets say a rover 16 valve over head cam is more time consuming as you have to skim the head replace the timing belt etc.

The gaskets can cost between 拢10 to 拢60.

How to know if its a Head Gasket Problem?

Hi! Thanks for reading my question.

I was thinking about buying a cheap vehicle (under $1000) and take my time learning how to change the head gasket and timing belt and later see it if all goes well.

So looking at Craigslist, I see many people who claim that their car has a head gasket problem.. some say they run, some say they dont.

So my question is, How do I know for sure if its a head gasket problem and that its not something worse.

Because by my understanding, head gaskets burn due to overheating.. So the engine could have even cracked or extended in size due to it being so hott.

Please explain! Thank youu! :)How to know if its a Head Gasket Problem?
You have to do a pressure test ...You also have to use a dye to help you find out what head is bad...Usually people will try to sell the car instead of fixing it...Usually these cars are hondas or toyotas that have aluminum heads...Sometimes the head itself is bad due to over heating...So just fixing the head gasket is opening a can of worms......Instaed of a 800.00 repair it can be over 2000.00....How to know if its a Head Gasket Problem?
You have nailed the issue of this one. Anytime a head gasket blows, there is overheating involved. Which in turn can cause warping and cracking of heads and blocks.

That being said, Oftentimes, it is simply a matter of having the head machined (to get rid of any warping) buying appropriate gaskets and installing the head correctly.

    good luck.

The head gasket on my Suzuki Vitara (1996) has gone: new gasket, new engine or new car?

    What shall I do?

I don't have that much cash.

I bought the car in Jan last year. Its a Suzuki Vitara 1996 model 4x4 2 litre Turbo Diesel LWB 5 door Auto.

The head gasket has been a problem since November (with the radiator emptying of water quite quickly), but it drives ok, and has not let me down.

The mechanic says I'm looking at 700 quid just to change the head gasket and see if anything else is wrong (if there is additional damage it could be up 拢2000 worth of repairs!)

The mechanic suggested I would probably be better off getting a new engine put in. Is this a good idea; how much would it cost, and would additional parts have to be fitted alongside the engine? Which ones?

replacing the head gaskets will cost you much cheaper that buying a new engine.

but it is advised to let an expert mechanic to do the job and check for other problems before replacing the head gasketsThe head gasket on my Suzuki Vitara (1996) has gone: new gasket, new engine or new car?

    Head gasket question?

I posted a question yesterday, for tips on how to change a head gasket...but since then, we had an emergency, and the car HAD to be used...i kept coolant topped off. and it has'nt been overheating, or no exhaust steam ect..but the reservoir still has been overflowing, even though it is'nt over filled, and oil is still trickling into the antifreeze and the reservoir.. which is a good indication that the head gasket IS shot...now i have'nt got it diagnosed by a professional, but i have had many people tell me it is a head gasket since it's common in the 98 taurus's..can you give me any more info, since it IS'NT overheating..yet..lol and will driving it 1 more time hurt it in the long run. even IF it's being kept cool and not overheatingHead gasket question?
Have it fixed you,ll be better off in the long run.

The oil will collect behind the thermostat and it will overheat, usually when you least expect it.

The oil will also ruin all of you hoses.

    ScottyHead gasket question?
what more info do you need, you have a leaky head gasket,if you keep driving it it will eventually over heat. When it does you stand a chance of the motor seizing up or doing other damage.I say strap a 55 gallon drum on the roof, fill it with water, run a hose down to the water bottle and keep on driving till the motor stops running....that is what you wanted to here ...rightHead gasket question?
yes driving it more will warp the heads even more its only so much they can shave off the heads before you can re use them then you are lookin at more money on a set of heads and if the reservoir is overflowing it is overheating but i would not fix that car its one of the worse ever made if you havent already fixed the transmission it will be the next to go thats the 2 main problems with the ford taurus the transmission and the heads i have 5 in my yard that i am fixin the transmissions in

Well depending on the value of the car, I would just go for the head gasket. Most likely they will find something else wrong, but it should be minor. If there was any damage from overheating because of the head gasket I would think you would have noticed.

I would not replace the engine, the car just doesn't seem worth that expense.

first of all, you need to be a qualified mechanic with the right tools, and secondly you may not need to replace it if your cars only over heated they can sometimes just skim the top off.Head gasket?
    Hi there,

I agree with Corey, If you have to ask then maybe you shouldn't attempt the job. If your head gasket is leaking what has caused it to leak and you may need specialist machining services to skim the cylinder head if warped and this can only be checked using special tooling too.Head gasket?
Try reading the Haynes manual for your car would be the first stage to see if you can tackle the job. Head Gasket(s). You have two cylinder heads on this engine remember.

A few weeks ago we did a Subie 2.5 head gasket in my shop. My lead mechanic, who has probably done several hundred head gasket jobs in his career worked on it. Afterwards he vowed never to do another head gasket job again. He's calmed down a bit since then but you get the idea.

By changing the head gasket on my car what does the mechanic look to accomplish besides making $50 bucks...?

And with proper tools how difficult is this to accomplish on lets say a older model jeep cherokee.By changing the head gasket on my car what does the mechanic look to accomplish besides making $50 bucks...?
The head gasket keeps in compression, which gives the engine power and torque. It also keeps coolant from leaking into the engine cylinders which causes smoky exhaust. The head gasket also keeps coolant from leaking out of the engine block. It is an important part of your engine.By changing the head gasket on my car what does the mechanic look to accomplish besides making $50 bucks...?

Stopping your oil from leaking.By changing the head gasket on my car what does the mechanic look to accomplish besides making $50 bucks...?
If your head gasket is bad, you could be leaking oil or coolant into the cylinders, or each into the other. This can cause major problems, like new engines and stuff. Your mechanic would make more than $50 on that.

If you have done major engine work before, by all means you can change a head gasket. Get a Chilton's or Haynes manual ($10) for the Cherokee, read the procedure to be sure you understand it and have all the parts and tools needed, and get after it. It will be a learning experience, at the least.

If your mechanic has not explained why he wants to change the gasket, ask him. If you are still unsure, take it to a different mechanic for a second opinion. My guess is that it will be the same. It's not like he is telling you he needs to change the air in your tires, or anything. If your getting a head gasket changed for $50.00, it better be your brother in law doing you a favor. I just finished doing a head gasket job on my 1993 Ford Broncowith a 5.8 V8, (correctly myself) and spent about $500.00 in parts and machine work on the heads alone. No labor. And yes, it is more of a job than shade tree mechanic will want to take on. Hope this helps.By changing the head gasket on my car what does the mechanic look to accomplish besides making $50 bucks...?
you get what you pay for. Can`t expect a good job for 50 dollars. What about other gaskets. Checking head for wear and warpage. Is this mechanic certified?. what happens when he puts it all together and you still have the same problemBy changing the head gasket on my car what does the mechanic look to accomplish besides making $50 bucks...?
Anyone willing to do that for $50 will probably destroy your engine. The head(s) need to be checked for war-page and leaks (cracks). This can only be done at a machine shop (under water and under pressure) Valves, valve guides and valve seats need to be checked. Not a DYI project.

    Changing head gaskets?

Has anyone ever heard of having to drop the engine to change head gaskets in a 4.6 Northstar engine? It's in a 1999 Cadillac Deville. I've always known head gaskets to be accessible by taking apart the engine from the top down, but I've never done a Northstar. (The car is not mine and I do know how notorious Northstars are for head gaskets so don't leave any smart comments.) Thanks.Changing head gaskets?
Yes you have to drop engine , just as easy you might as well drop all the way, the timechain cover takes up complete side of engine and if you really have head gasket problem then you most likely have broken headbolts or stripped out head bolt holes in block, real big projectChanging head gaskets?

You don't have to,but if you ever got the chance to do head gaskets in the car, nows the time.I recommend leaving it to the professionals. At my dealership,we have a special cradle with caster wheels to remove the front subframe, engine, trans, as a unit which holds the engine at the right height to work on it.Also,if your going to waste your money on a northstar, you should have the bottom end resealed because they all leak oil.

  • About the head gasket?

Based on the answers I got, i have checked and found that there are no leaks, the oil looks congealed. How much would it cost to get a head gasket changed? I am now certain that water is leaking into the engine.About the head gasket?
It depends on the car and on the mechanic. The gasket itself is not that expensive, probably around $30-$60. But it may take a while to get to it, and there are other gaskets that may need to be replaced (like the valve cover gasket). However, if you are ok with wrenches, nuts, and bolts, you could do it yourself. Most cars don't require that you remove the engine, and it shouldn't take more than 3 hours even if you're inexperienced. If you consider doing it yourself, I would recommend getting a repair book for your car and studying all the diagrams. Also, buy all the gaskets you may need to replace--I wouldn't recommend using liquid gasket--and get the best gasket dressings/sealants you can find.

Now, the really important part for do-it-yourself is to get a torque wrench and make sure that you tighten everything properly. The repair book diagrams usually indicate proper torque settings for every nut and bolt--make sure to follow these. Mechanics, especially cheaper ones, tend to use regular hand/power tools instead of proper torque wrenches and they overtighten most everything from wheels to spark plugs to engine parts. That may not be problematic right away, but it will be down the road in several years. When it comes to engines, overtightening damages gaskets (especially those made from liquid gasket or those that were put on without proper gasket dressing by incompetent mechanics) that results in oil leaks in a couple years.About the head gasket?
Probably 拢200-400 depending on the make/model etc. It's expensive as the head is usually skimmed to ensure a perfect fit on the replacement gasket.

Or if you want the cheap and cheerfull you could risk without the skim, but always a chance you might do some major damage to your car, and most garages will not recommend it.About the head gasket?
i had oil leaks in my car and first mechanic said it might need a new head gasket and could cost between $1500-$1800. so i took my car to another place and they said all it needs is new o-rings and not the head gasket which was about $140.About the head gasket?
    Hi Dale

My MkIV Zephyr had that problem too. It's way cheaper to buy a whole new car. Trust me, I found out the hard way. Even if your car is really new, like so new that it's only 'just' come off warranty (usually the exact time the head gasket blows) - it is still cheaper just to go buy another car.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but im just being honest. I almost cried when I found out too.About the head gasket?
i would like to assist you in your plight.is it a petrol or diesel. what make?.as for the price i would say at least 拢150.About the head gasket?
Dale, It's important to have the cylinder head checked for flatness while it's off the car. If it's out of flat it should be machined at an automotive machine shop.

If a warped cylinder head with a new head gasket is placed on the block and bolted on the same thing is going to happen again sooner or later.

As you can see the price will vary. Typically a machine shop will charge between $100.00- $150.00. for truing up a cylinder head.About the head gasket?

Can anyone tell me how to change/install a head gasket for a 1985 Nissan Pulsar?

Hi guys. I'm really stuck today, as this is the first question I've asked since I joined!

I could really use a little help, as I'm feeling frustrated over my inability to fix a problem I have. I'm a practical woman who is used to being able to work things out easily, so to be totally unable to fix this problem is frustrating.

Anyway, to get to the point!

If any one of you has ANY idea how to change or install a head gasket for a 1985 Nissan Pulsar, or any idea where to get information on how to do it, I would really appreciate some details. Anything you an think of would be useful! Links and diagrams are especially appreciated, as I'm a very visual person.

My fiance is pretty handy with cars and can usually fix things right up once he has instructions, but as he's never replaced a head gasket for anything before, he's a little in the dark on this one.

Thank you very much! :)Can anyone tell me how to change/install a head gasket for a 1985 Nissan Pulsar?
I strongly suggest a Haynes manual; It is clear, concise and priceless to have. I've brought 25 Sentras and Pulsars back to life and they respond very well to head-gasket changes. Just make sure you scrape ALL the old gasket completely off the block and the head--being especially careful with the aluminum head--and use acetone to clean both surface and nothing else. Other solvents will leave an oily residue. And follow the Haynes manual explicitly. You can do it, you have a great car.

Advice: Leave the manifolds on the head, it saves on gaskets and aggravation. It's easier to label wires and hoses than it is to fuss with awkward manifold nuts and such. It's a bit quicker that way, too. And make sure the dimple on the cam edge is set straight-up and that the crank timing mark is set for Top-Dead-Centre. You can do it, Good luck! Can anyone tell me how to change/install a head gasket for a 1985 Nissan Pulsar?
I strongly suggest buying a repair manual, either directly from Nissan if they sell it or from a publisher such as Haynes or Chilton. There are many steps you have to do in order and torque specifications you'll need for the many nuts and bolts. A service manual will lay these out for you.

A 99 is very clean under the hood, I could do it in 3 hours. If you have never done it before get a manual, read it carefully so you can make sure you have everything you need (straight edge, torque wrench, ect..) and a Saturday should be sufficient.

if you pull the heads off that one you also need to take them and have them checked for hair line cracks and warp-age in them, i see a lot of those with small cracks in them from getting hot, ordinary time on that one would be about 6-8 hours on doing this providing you have the heads already done, and that's cleaning everything back up really good,do your self a big favor though and steam clean the engine off before you start on it ,this makes it a lot easier to work on,good luck with it,don't get in a hurry on this one,if it takes two days take your time with it,its better to have done it right the first time than to have to do it over again,i learned that from experience, good luck.

I agree with the ASE MASTER TECH above, however:

When you replace your head gaskets, the compression in your motor will dramatically increase...which will probably blow out your piston rings and/or crankshaft bearings, main seals, etc, etc. ...... Plus your entire cooling system is probably full of a greasy sludge.

Once you need new head gaskets, there are probably many other weak links which also need to be looked over.

1998 gran prix head gasket help help help more inside?

how and how hard is it to change the head gasket any help will be thankfull1998 gran prix head gasket help help help more inside?
It is a time consuming job that if it is not done perfectly will not work or last long. If you are good at working on cars and have the tools and manual for the vehicle you can do it at home and fix it yourself but you can't be cheap and try to skip steps or it will come back to haunt you in the end. You will have to change all or the gaskets above the heads and the head bolts as well as all of the fluids. It might be a good idea to change the water pump and thermostat while you have it apart to make sure they are good when you get it all back together. Hope I have been helpful.1998 gran prix head gasket help help help more inside?
Replacing a head gasket is not a DIY job, unless the person has plenty of experience, knowledge, and the proper tools. The fact that a you would even ask, %26quot;how and how hard is it to change the head gasket%26quot;, would indicate to some that you should not try to do that repair.

To replace a head gasket you must remove the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, valve train, and then the head. This is very involved and requires disconnecting lots of sensors and the ignition system. The head must then be checked to see if it is warped, or cracked, and repaired if necessary. You must then know how to put all this back together and torque all the bolts in the proper sequence. This takes training and skill which the average shade tree mechanic does not have.

If you are dead set on DIYing it, get a vehicle specific repair manual and dig in. Good luck1998 gran prix head gasket help help help more inside?
that is my opinion also. If you have to ask it is beyond your current abilities. It would also be of use to know which engine if there is more than one available in this vehicle and if it is the front or rear head. In general the front head is a hard job, the rear head is near impossible. If it is a 3100 or in that series I would replace the car. If it is a 3800 series I would think it is a cracked lower intake manifold, about a $900 job.1998 gran prix head gasket help help help more inside?
Not to hard. Get a manual to be a general guide. The first check is the intake gaskets, they go out and dump coolant in the oil. This makes people think the head gasket is out. Intake has to come off to do the heads, so it's not wasted labor. Take your time, take notes, label everything, METICULOUSLY clean everything and every surface, and put it back together with new head bolts. It's not that hard if it was I wouldn't be doing them. 3.1/3.4 The cylinder right under the alternator has the blown gasket. Has been every time I've done one. 3.8 probably the plastic intake is burned through around the EGR tube.

I bought the correct Haynes repair manual for my car, but I can't seem to find where it shows step by step how to change the head gasket. I looked in the index, and its not even mentioned there. One thing to keep in Mind is when replacing the head gasket you should have a couple things done before you slap'er back together. First you should have the head checked to see if it is warped, or cracked. If it is warped you're going to have to have it machined. If it is cracked your going to need a replacement. Next you're going to wanna replace the head studs. Don't buy any old head gasket. do some research before you buy a new one. You don't want this to happen again. • Changing the head gasket of a 2001 Cadillac Catera?

I have just bought this car 3 weeks ago and maybe it wasn't the best deals of all times. I took it today to the mechanic to check for a coolant leak and he called me back with three problems: radiodor needs to be replaced, water pump needs to be replaced and the head gasket is blown.

    Water pump ~ $210

Radiator ~ unkown yet (makes me wonder if I could use the sealing stuff you can get at wal-mart.)

    Head Gasket ~ $1300 (labor + parts)

This is not cheap - specially for a recent graduate college student.

    My questions are:

-- Does that seem to be reasonable prices?

-- How hard is to fix the head gasket?

-- Head gasket problem is a pretty big deal?

-- Anyone wants a Cadillac Catera?

Note that my experience with cars is limited. I should have gotten a degree in mechanical engineering; not electrical. That would have certainly helped. But I am pretty handy and got some common sense for the most part.

Thanks in advance!Changing the head gasket of a 2001 Cadillac Catera?
Those prices are certainly reasonable IFF they are genuine problems. I would question why a 2001 model has a bad radiator or a bad water pump. How many miles??

The head gasket should not have blown unless someone overheated it, which could happen if it was abused.

My advice: Take it to another mechanic. You can stomach the radiator and water pump....the head gasket is a MAJOR deal, $$ wise and also potential for ruining the engine. There are 3 ways you can tell if the head gasket is blown. You may get coolant in your motor oil. Pull the dipstick and see if the oil looks milky or cloudy. OR you are getting combustion gases in your coolant (heater core fills with air and won't heat or gases bypass the radiator cap) OR after you let it sit overnight, start it and see if there is water coming out of the tailpipe. (Note: water is a by-product of normal combustion and I am not talking about a few drips after a long time running........I am talking about water coming out IMMEDIATELY after you start it.

If any of these 3 things are happening, you have a blown head gasket. If it has over 150K, I would salvage the car and NOT fix it. Let me know.Changing the head gasket of a 2001 Cadillac Catera?

Can anyone tell me how to change the head gaskets on my '98 grand am?

I can't get the belt off to remove some parts that are in the way. Any help? Can anyone tell me how to change the head gaskets on my %26039;98 grand am?
There is a bolt that goes through a round piece of pipe, yoou need to take this bolt out and the pipe will fall out. I juack up the passenger side and take off that wheel, then I take the plastic rivets out of the splash guard, your just need to take thhe forward ones out then you can pull the guard back enough to get a 15mm deep well socket on the nut, I say nut because it is actaually a nut on a stud, sometimes the nut and stud come out together at other times you need to take a wrench to the end of the stud. Anyway once you get the stud out the pipe will fall out, you may have to help it some. I use an impact wrench on the 15mm nut, that is the easiest. This is the only way to get the belt off though. Can anyone tell me how to change the head gaskets on my %26039;98 grand am?
sure you take it to a mechanicCan anyone tell me how to change the head gaskets on my %26039;98 grand am?
If you have to ask this question, you dont need to be going that deep into the engine. If you mess the timing up, or dont torque the head right, its over. Without knowledge of this, there are way too many things that can mess up. Call around, get estimates, and choose the one that you think is your best bet.

Usually, there is a reason for the head gasket to need to be changed. Often, overheating and when you remove the head, it should be milled to make certain that it is flat and not warped (from the overheating). Otherwise, you'll soon need another new head gasket.

If you plan to do it yourself, know that there is a great deal of cleaning, degreasing, prep before reassembly and attention to detail. Torque to spec in the proper sequence is critical as well.

Good luck! How hard is it to change a head gasket?
Providing you have the proper know how, proper tools and specs. Go ahead and plan one full day to do the actual work. It is very wise to have the heads pressure tested and resurfaced. I would say, if you are not a train mechanic, don't do it. I've been a backyard mechanic and now I am a trained journeyman mechanic of 15yrs. It's amazing all the little, important things you learn in training and on the job experience that you don't know otherwise. Also, no two of the same jobs are ever the same. Doing the head gasket on my honda (first head gasket for me) took me about 6-7 hours because the amount of work and being the first time. The cams have to come out, so the valves have to be readjusted after reinstall, that's and hour there, and on top of that its a honda, there's no room to work. Intake and exhaust has to come off. Head bolts have to come out in a certain order to prevent warpage. Also once the head is off you need to check the gasket surfaces to make sure they are flat. You need a real straight edge and feeler gauges, do not use a level. If its not flat, it needs to be machined. Then it goes all back together, using torque specs and what not. It's really not for the beginner.

How To Change Head Gasket On 97 FORD Contour And What Are All The Processes Ill Need To Go Through........?

View my previous answer. Thanks. How To Change Head Gasket On 97 FORD Contour And What Are All The Processes Ill Need To Go Through........?
This is not a project for an amature mechanic - you will need special tools, the head needs to be checked and likely milled at a machine shop. I'm not saying it's impossible but the procedure involves hundreds of steps, and screwing up most of them may lead to engine (or at least - head) replacement.

If you still want to take chances - make sure you get a good detailed manual, maybe even ford shop manual that is available at a dealer's parts department for about $100.How To Change Head Gasket On 97 FORD Contour And What Are All The Processes Ill Need To Go Through........?
This is a labor intensive undertaking. You must have a repair manual. This is not an option. Overhead cam engines are more difficult. The hardest part is removing everything that is bolted and connected to the head. If the engine has been overheated the head must be checked to insure it isn't warped. Then just put it all back together insuring all electrical connections etc. are reinstalled just as they came apart.

how much would it cost for just the head gasket and how much would the garage charge. How hard would a head gasket repair be?
You can do it yourself for about $200 in parts + about $40 to resurface the head at a machine shop. It would be a good learning experience. You'll also be learning about replacing the timing belt and wter pump. If you've never done it before, expect it to take you a week or so and you'll most likey screw something up and have to take it all apart again. I'mnot discouraging you. The learning experience is well worth it.

You'll need a head gasket kit. The kit comes with several other gaskets that should be replaced during the job. You'll also need a timing belt kit and water pump. Since you have to remove the timing belt to remove the head, you may as well replace the timing belt, water pump, tensioner pulley, idler pulley crank seal and cam seal. There aren't many special tools you'll need, other than a torque wrench, feeler gauges and seal puller.

Its Petrol 1124 cc year 1995 Any useful web sites or tech info procedue ect plz HelpHow to change a cylinder head gasket on a PEUGEOT 106 ?
I have changed head gaskets on the Peugeot 104, 204, 305, 205. It is all very similar to your 106.

I believe your 1.1 liter 1995 engine is a TU type engine. The old 405 had some TU models also, and HERE is a free on-line text that you can read by HAYNES REPAIR MANUALS.

You should read it over and decide if you want to do it yourself. HAYNES considers this job 'Difficult, suitable for experienced DIY mechanic'

    go to this website:

    http://www.scribd.com/doc/413510/Haynes-

and scroll down to page 2A-10 (page 50 of 301 in this pdf book) Removing Cylinder Head.

Download the complete book, if you wish, FREE, but download it as an ADOBE PDF file, to keep the photos, important.

good luck, you gotta learn sometime!

PS...DON'T put the new gasket on 'using a bit of sealant'. This adds a thin layer, making the new thickness TOO thick. And giving a weak layer to leak again later. Remember, the gasket has a metal construction to withstand HIGH cylinder pressure. A thin layer of sealant is a weak spot to %26quot;blow out%26quot; later. How to change a cylinder head gasket on a PEUGEOT 106 ?

How to change a cylinder head gasket on a PEUGEOT 106 ?
Put simply, once you've removed all the air cleaner, pipes, cables etc that are in the way, unbolt the rocker cover, then the cylinder head, scrape off the remains of the old gasket, put the new one on using a bit of sealant, refit the cylinder head, using new bolts done up to the correct torque, bolt everything back on, bob's your uncle!

If you've never attempted anything like this before, take it to a garage, what I've described above would take a Peugeot mechanic with all the right tools 2 or 3 hours! How to change a cylinder head gasket on a PEUGEOT 106 ?
i suggest unless you have any mechanical experience take it to a local garage and see if they could fit it for youHow to change a cylinder head gasket on a PEUGEOT 106 ?
    Seriously, don't bother!

It's a seriously messy job, plus new cam belt.

My 1993 106 had the head gasket done last year, along with a lot of other work. If you can possibly get rid and start again then do. I part ex'd mine today as the head gasket was the first of a long list of things to go in very quick succession.

you got to also have the heads checked for warping and cracks so this cant be done in a day unless your just going to install new gaskets and take a chance on them blowing again,to do the job right you need to have the heads checked before you re-install them or you may wind up doing the same job over again, good luck. How long to change head gaskets ?
good deal,i hope its not hurt any, because those can get expensive if you have to buy one, well gotta go work for now, good luck with it.

If your wanting to do it yourself ,you could do it in a weekend. That's if you have the tools and knowledge to do this tpye of work.If you had it at a shop they would do it in a day.How long to change head gaskets ?
dont do this yourself. 06 model year is pretty new and a head gasket job on this would take special tools and a skilled mechanic for a job done right...not even mentioning the machinist that will have to inspect, resurface and clean the heads once theyre out

I know it will vary from place to place but a rough idea would be great so I can see if my mum can afford itHow much does it cost to have the head gasket changed on a Peugeot 106?
as others have said, it will vary depending on where you take it.

if it's a diesel 1.4 litre then i wouldn't bother. Or if you do then get it fixed and sell it, as it's not worth bothering with. For some reason the 1.4 diesel is rubbish, talking from experience here, the water pump went first, which meant topping up with water almost daily, overheating if you drive for more than 10 miles and then a warped head, a loud bang, and lots of smoke. so far since then it's done it twice more, cost 拢400 in parts (total) and 拢180 labour (each time).

For the record, a head gasket set and the new head bolts cost just under 拢70, a head skim (essential) around 拢40, new cambelt (essential) 拢30, and new cambelt tensioner (essential) 拢25.

Now i advise ringing around lots for the bits and labour costs. last time mine went it came out like this:

Total 拢165 just for bits, when you take labour into account, (say 拢45 per hour for a 4 hour (ish) job) that's another 拢180. plus vat at 17.5% equals grand total 拢405.38p.

Now you know that, go to e bay motors and look up peugeot 106 in cars and automotive and see how much another one is. and get a 1.5 if you want a diesel (lots better reliability) or a 1.4 petrol.

my new car is a vw golf with 12 months mot, bought locally for 拢275 plus a certain pug 106 as deposit. therefore 拢130 saved, and a vw will never die.

Good luck. How much does it cost to have the head gasket changed on a Peugeot 106?
拢300-拢400 alot depends on whether the head is damaged I.E. Warped and needs to be skimmed as that bumps the price up considerablyHow much does it cost to have the head gasket changed on a Peugeot 106?
I'm sure any reputable garage will give you an estimate. You can check out 2 or 3 and see which one has the best price and check around and see who does the best job for the best price

it`s not so much the cost of parts as it is the labor. Every shop sets it`s own hourly rate or flat rate for doing work. I think you`ll just have tocall around for your answers. I would guess it`s gonna be $500.00 plus dollars however. How much does it cost to have the head gasket changed on a Peugeot 106?
It cost 拢250 for my Punto 1.0, but most of that was labour. How much does it cost to have the head gasket changed on a Peugeot 106?
Couple of hundred quid at least. Labour intensive job, taking a cylinder head off. If a gasket needs changing, it's for a reason (ie underlying problem), which might involve some light engineering to be done on the head, such as skimming (taking a very fine layer off).

It's not a five-quid job, and not something you should try youself without the right tools and expertise. How much does it cost to have the head gasket changed on a Peugeot 106?
hey there i had a hyundai and i did the head gasket my self parts alone cost me about $400 and i had to get my head plained and that was $60 now if your taking it into a garage it may cost you alot more i'm going to say around $500to $750 maybe a little more like i'm from Canada and most garages here charge $65.00 an hour shop rate and then theres labour and parts on top of that so your looking at a pretty big bill hope this gives you an idea the best thing i would do is go to your garage that does most of the work on your car and ask or call around and some times the cheapest does not mean the best quality work

Does anyone know how hard it is to change a head gasket on a 96 dodge avenger.?

if you dont already know exactly how to do it, i suggest you don't try and leave it to a professional.Does anyone know how hard it is to change a head gasket on a 96 dodge avenger.?
Depends on whether it is a 4 or 6 cylinder, and whether you are a better than average mechanic. Get a repair manual and read up on the R%26amp;R section of what it takes, and if it sounds like greek, you might be better off to pass on doing it yourself. How hard it is will depend on your skill levels in mechanical work and how well you can understand and do something you you have not done previously. Also, you need tools, like a torque wrench, for proper assembly.

How hard is it to change a head gasket on a rover 414?

i bought a car ( rover 414 s reg) there seamed to be no problems with the car but on my second drive in the car the engine over heated . there was no water in the cooling system, so topping it up i carried on and few more miles the water was gone again and was smoke coming rom exshaust. i was told it could be the head gasket has gone so i burning water in the fuel. how hard is it to replace the head gasket? any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.. thanksHow hard is it to change a head gasket on a rover 414?
Check the oil filler cap for creamy mayonaise type gunk. check the coolant bottle for the same.

If it is clean, the head gasket HAS NOT failed. Its usually the inlet manifold gasket allowing coolant to enter the cylinders.

If it is the head gasket, Its one of the easiest modern engines to change. Get a haynes manual for the basic description, but I'll give you some extra advice its best to follow.

Do not use cheap no-name gaskets. Only use the oem payen type. The land rover MLS gasket is the best. Get one from a land rover dealer. tell them you want it for a Freelander 1.8. Same engine.

Do not bother with the up rated oil rail available. Some people will tell you its needed. It isnt exept on the freelander.

Measure the liner stand-proud above the block face, using a straight edge and feeler gauges. It should be more than 2 thou. 1 thou is acceptable, less than that and the liners have sunk and the new head gasket will fail again quickly. New engine time.

The head bolts can be re-used as long as they are in good condition, screw each bolt into its location with the head still off. They should screw easily to well below the hight of the head without effort. if they bind at all, get new ones.

Look at the head face, if there is a groove where the fire ring sits, it has gone soft from over heating. you can get it skimmed flat if its not too deep, and use a head saver shim. better off with a new head.

DO NOT skim the head if it is flat. they are surface hardened and skimming can remove that layer.

Make sure both faces are very clean before re-assembly.How hard is it to change a head gasket on a rover 414?
If it's the 414 it's defo the Head Gasket thats gone! these engines eat them!!

This job is not difficult for someone who knows what they're doing but if you've not done it before then it will be difficult.

Get a Haynes Manual for the car this is a MUST!

You will need a Torque wrenchHow hard is it to change a head gasket on a rover 414?
its not that hard, but having over heated it you could have warped the head, just makesure you get the timing correct there is a tool to lock it in place and most of all replace the head bolts, i didnt and when reassembling it i snapped one and had to drop the sump which was a work up, because they are stretch bolts you can only use them once, apart from that i found it rarther easy, before i did it everyone umed and ared about it but dont let them put you off, av a go its goo learning, by the way mine was a rover engine not the honda engine, good luckHow hard is it to change a head gasket on a rover 414?
    not easy.

Changed head gasket in a 2000 civic and car wont start now?

ok.. i changed the head gasket on my 2000 civc ex and now it wont start. as soon as i finished the install the car started right up and then i gave the car some gas up to about 4k rpms and then it started to stumble and run like a misfire and cut off. i checked the compression the fuel and the spark and have all 3. when the motor is at top dead center on compression stroke the rotor button in the distributor is pointing at the 1 plug spot as its supposed to be. when the distributor is pushed back towards the fire wall as far as it can go, it acts like it wants to start but doesnt... i am stumped!! have no idea what to do next... if anyone else has had this problem or knows how to trouble shoot this problem please let me know asap!!!! THANK YOU!Changed head gasket in a 2000 civic and car wont start now?
Check your timing marks again on the timming belt sometimes they slip. Or try to take the distributor out and just move the rotor one way or the other untill you get it You are not stupid dont even think like that!Changed head gasket in a 2000 civic and car wont start now?
something is out of timeChanged head gasket in a 2000 civic and car wont start now?
OK, lets see. It's got fuel, spark, and compression. Um, what could it be. Have you check for AIR. The fuel part of this equation is actually air/fuel mixture, with out the air the fuel won't ignite.

The problem could be some blockage in the air inlet tube or air filter box. I have had vehicles with mice nest in the air box causing the vehicle not to start. I had a truck last spring that is parked all winter, the guy got ready to pull it out and start driving it, but it wouldn't fire. After about 2 weeks off fighting with it, he ask me if I could take a look at it. I opened up the air box and a hole family of mice jumped out. We cleaned out the air box and put in a new filter. The truck runs fine.

Another possible problem could be a dirty Throttle-body or idle air passage inside the TB restricting air flow causing the engine to flood out and stall. The TB can be check by just opening the throttle plate and checking to see how much carbon is built up inside.

    Hope this helps. Christopher
